Dried mango is a delicious treat that provides several health benefits. They are mostly cultivated and processed in tropical countries and distributed in nearly all over the world. Consider adding it to your regular diet, either by buying dried mangoes or dehydrating them yourself.

There are many health benefits associated with eating dried mango. It provides an abundance of dietary fiber, promoting healthy and regular bowel movements. Several studies have shown that they help to prevent prostate, breast and colon cancers.

Mangoes are rich in Vitamin A, beta-carotene, and many other important nutrients. Potassium is also abundant. It is low in sodium and fat free. Vitamins B6, C and E are present in notable amounts too. All of these are known to assist in the synthesis of neurotransmitters that are required for normal cognitive functions. Vitamin B6, in particular, is required in the production of GABA, which is used to synthesize Serotonin. For this reason, mango can also serve as a natural remedy for depression.

Mangoes are green when harvested. As they ripen they become orange and yellow in color. Over ripened mangoes will fall from the tree and become damaged or spoiled, so be on the lookout for bruises.

Unripe mangoes are extremely sour in taste and will feel very hard. Storing your mangoes is very easy. To ripen them quickly put them in a paper bag. Store them at room temperature in the the open to keep them fresh for several days. To slow down ripening put them in your refrigerator.
